In this issue, the CCP
reproduces part of the Friendship Press advance notice on China study
materials, which was the ecumenical theme for 1978-1979. The editor, Ray
Whitehead, also gives an account of the activities of the CCP. It begins with a
review of China: Search for Community
by Raymond L. Whitehead and Rhea M. Whitehead. It features “China’s Challenge to
Canadian Aid Policies” by Douglas Roche (MP for Edmonton-Strathcona), which
argues against Western pressure for a “top down” model of development in China.
It includes a report on China’s commendation of Swedish and Dutch debt
cancellation. It also includes short vignettes on news related to China or
Canadian relations with China and an interview on Christian worship in China
between the editor of China Talk and Ms. Wong. A report on China’s trade with
Canada is also included.
