The issue opens with an
account of the recent activities of the CCP, apologizing for a decreased rate
of work, due especially to preparations for the conference in Fort Qu’Appelle
in June. It features an article by Peter Mauger, titled “Education for Revolution:
China before ‘49”, which surveys the educations system of Pre-Revolution China.
It is followed by “Education and the Status Quo” by Katharine Hockin, which
recounts her own experience in the period of transition towards Chinese control
of the school system. Suzanne Pepper’s “Education for Development” analyzes the
reform of the education, emphasizing development administration. The issue also
includes an excerpt of an article from a talk given by David and Isabel Crook,
titled “Education in Transition: Open-door Schooling and the Cultural
Revolution.” The issue also explores the influx of Chinese students to Canada
and of Canadian teachers to China and concludes with short reports on various
topics related to China.
