The issue includes an
excerpt from an unpublished autobiography by Winifred Galbraith of an encounter
with Chairman Mao during her time in China. It also reports on criticism from a
Canadian of a Chinese dictionary, which was published in a Chinese newspaper.
It also includes various smaller reports on events or developments in China or
relations between China and Canada. Among these reports, there are also
accounts of developments in the Chinese Church, including the position of the
Vatican towards China, the re-opening of a cathedral, and the silence of the
Chinese media on the death of Pope Paul. It contains a much longer report
titled “Anna Louise Strong and the First Unitarian Church of Los Angeles” by
Stephen Fritchman, analyzing the life of a Western woman who lived in China and
supported the PRC.
