This issue is a special
double issue and, in the notes from the editor, the presence of KH Ting in
Canada is noted and his tour and position as a Bishop is discussed. This issue
also features articles from newspapers like the Globe and Mail, covering the
trial of the Gang of Four, the Pope’s call for the resumption of ties between
the Chinese Church and the Vatican, Jesuit report on a visit to China, and the
Nanking University’s New Centre for Religious Studies. An in-depth examination
of the life of KH Ting and his time in Canada is given, highlighting his
position in the Chinese Church and his itinerary in China. The Friendship
Delegation in Canada and its Bethune Fundraiser is also the object of attention
in a few articles. The issue features “Is There Religion after Revolution?: An
Interview with KH Ting” by Howard S. Hyman, in which Ting explains the position
of the Church in China and his work there. It then transcribes a speech given
by KH Ting to the Central Committee of the World Council of Churches (Geneva,
1956), titled “The Life of the Churches in China.” It also provides a sermon
preacher by Ting at Riverside Church in NYC in September of 1979, called “A
Christian in the New China: Thirty Years of Life.” Furthermore, the address of
Ting to the students of the Nanking Theological Seminary in 1957 and 1958 on
the subject of Christian theism is provided.
