This issue was designated
as a special edition on religion in China, due to a significant number recent
of developments in that department, which the notes from the editor briefly
explains. The issue begins with small news vignettes on religious developments
in China, especially a visit of New Zealand churches to China the year before.
Other topics of interest are the opening of a centre for religious studies in
Nanking and a report of a conference of Chinese theologians. It also highlights
Chinese forms of worship, the relations of religion and superstition in China,
and hints at a new religious freedom by Chinese intellectuals.
