This issue opens with a
few words from the editor, which particularly discusses the opening of a branch
of the CCP in British Columbia. It features notes on China’s Open Door policy
to Huaqiao (or overseas ethnic Chinese), which encourage people to return to
China. It also includes the article “Old Fashioned Ideals Abound in the ‘New’
China” by J. Winfield Fretz (Conrad Grebel College) in which he shares his
impressions of conditions in China from a recent trip. It provides short
vignettes on news of interest to the CCP and reports on the meeting of the
People’s Consultative Conference and the National People’s Congress, which
featured Christian leaders as delegates. It also includes a text by Winnifred
Galbraith “A British Christian in Yenan – 1941” that relates her time spent as
a teacher in China and her interview with Mao.
