This larger issue comprises the
submission for the 46th session of the UN Commission on Human
Rights. It contains more extensive reports on the situation of South East Asian
countries. It contains short reports for Burma, China, and Japan. Regarding
East Timor, it details the situation of arrests and detention, torture,
executions and forced disappearances, restriction on freedoms, and violations
of collective rights, and includes a letter from Monsignor Belo. For Indonesia,
the issue deals with restrictions on the freedom of religion, arrest and
detention, torture, and threats to economic and social rights. Regarding South
Korea, it explains the repression of the reunification movement, arrests and
detentions, torture, censorship, and the suppression of workers. Reports are
also given for the Malaysia, Philippines, Singapore, Sri Lanka, and Taiwan. Each
report concludes with CAWG’s action suggestions.
